Deaths Sweet Song

Poem By: Suzanne McGillivray

One day Death came and looked me directly in the face
I stared right back
He came for me with song on his breath and chant in his eyes
I listened closely to every sound
Death took me to his chamber, darkened with exquisite light
My mind, it entered freely
Deaths sweet song, it drew me, on and on I went
Floating on a stream of lemon and lavender light
The stream, it did envelope, swallowing up all the past
With great allure it pulled me
Enticing sounds of peace and wholeness echoed all around
I surrender to its beauty, to the glorious tranquil rest
The joy of returning, born again into life
A greater life of fullness, complete in all its parts
But then I stopped responding
Deaths sweet song had lost its grip
The final door I could not entre
For a cry I heard was louder
More urgent than the rest
Humanities pain was calling
Time not now to rest
Return you must, you are needed
The work not yet complete
No matter the beauty of returning
Or how sweet the call of death
The need of man was greater
Louder than all the rest
One day death will call for me
That day I shall respond
With love and joy and laughter
As I travel the way beyond
