Jacaranda Avenue

Poem By: Suzanne McGillivray

Have you ever…
Wandered aimlessly through an avenue of Jacarandas
With Springs crystal sky all around
Radiant and glowing through blooms of ethereal lavender light

Have you ever…
Sat by the ocean and savoured the winter sun
Stealing moments of vitality and vibrancy
Before dark storm clouds move in again

Have you ever…
Travelled the expanse for the open desert
With deep blue sky overhead
Just you and the earth and the blue
Lost in the vastness, a mere speck on the face of a ball

Have you ever…
Climbed a mountain only to watch the sun rise upon a dead sea
Light blazing forth from darkness
Morning rays fan as fingers upon a hand
Amber tinged with lavender, magenta and tangerine
Indigo to azure and the days blue sky complete

Have you ever…
Painted a picture with words upon a page
Leaving image and imprint
Captured in a snapshot
Still brimming and shimmering
A single moment to last an eternal age

Have you ever…
Lived life as if each day was your first
With open eyes in wonder
Seeing beauty all around you
With love in your heart
No labels, no judgments
Just newness and freshness
Like quenching a long dry thirst

Have you ever…
Lived each day as if it were your last
Embracing life with eyes that see across time
Not wasting a moment on could’s and shouldnt’s and other such lies
Just with awe and wonder
Knowing life is all around us
There to behold

Each moment to be savoured
Each day a great gift
There to be created
Life, our great gift.
