Leadership and Skill in Action
Skill in action is an ongoing process, with three distinct components. It is about being willing to face ourselves and look honestly at our strengths and weaknesses. It is also about implementing changes that will enrich our lives and the lives of others.
The skills we learn at work set the tone for our growth and give us the means to bring satisfaction in each moment of our lives. We make all of life enjoyable if we genuinely apply ourselves to developing what is truly valuable within us.
Step 1. Become aware of our strengths and weaknesses
We need to be aware of the reality of our difficulties, not simply the intellectual acknowledgement, but honest observation of ourselves as we are.
Through this observation we will be motivated to take the next step.
Step 2. Resolve to change
When we clearly see the nature of our difficulties and have implemented change, we are ready for step three.
Step 3. Share what we have learned
By sharing what we have learned, we give others the opportunity to benefit and grow. Likewise, we accelerate our growth through the process of listening and learning. For some people this experience is as valuable as the lesson learnt.
